Kottayam: The Kottayam Additional Sessions Court revoked the bail granted to Bishop Franco Mulakkal in connection with the nun rape case. The court also issued a production warrant against the accused.
The action was taken as the accused continuously failed to appear before the court. The case will be considered again on August 13.
Franco Mulakkal did not turn up for the last 10 sittings when the court considered the case. When the case was considered on June 10, the accused had said that he cannot appear as the Bishop House where he was residing was placed in a containment zone. However, this has been proven wrong.
This time, Franco Mulakkal stated that his advocate had tested positive for COVID-19 and that he cannot be present before the court as he was listed in the primary contact list of his advocate. The bishop’s advocate submitted evidence including a flight ticket to prove his case, but the court did not accept it.
The court issued a production warrant and demanded that Franco Mulakkal be presented before the court immediately.
