The central government has approved the construction of 56,368 houses under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Urban (PMAY-U). These houses will be constructed under various verticals of PMAY-U mission. This decision was made in the 53rd meeting of the Central Clearance and Monitoring Committee held on Monday evening.
The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs said on Tuesday that the 53rd meeting of the Central Clearance and Monitoring Committee was held on Monday under the chairmanship of the secretary of the ministry, Durga Shankar Mishra, in which the construction of 56,368 new houses was approved. The meeting was attended by representatives from 11 states / union territories.
In the meeting, Durga Shankar Mishra said that the scheme implementation should be given prominence keeping in mind that all the characters should get benefits. He also directed to use the Online Working System (MIS) for proper implementation and monitoring of this mission of ‘Housing for All’.
With the vision of ‘Housing for All’, emphasis has been laid on completing construction of houses across the country and expediting their distribution. The Secretary of the Ministry said that the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs is committed to provide pucca houses to all eligible beneficiaries of the country by 2022 (when the nation is celebrating its 75th year of independence). He informed that construction of PMAY-U houses is in various stages. So far, the foundation of more than 73 lakh houses has been laid, the construction work of about 43 lakh houses has been completed.
