Congress MLA Nitesh Rane and two of his supporters have been arrested for assaulting Deputy Engineer Prakash Khedekar of the National Highways Authority of India. The incident took place at Kankavli in the coastal district of Sindhudurg.
Rane and his supporters, including the President of Kankavli Municipal Council Samir Nalawade today purportedly poured buckets full of mud on the deputy engineer and also tried to tie him to a bridge while shouting abuses over the pathetic state of Mumbai-Goa highway. The video of the incident has now gone viral on social media.
The Sindhudurg Police has filed a case against Rane and his supporters under various sections of IPC dealing with assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty. Sindhudurg’s SP Dikshit Gedam has informed that Rane would be produced in court tomorrow.
Apologising for his son’s behaviour, current Rajya Sabha member and former Maharashtra Chief Minister Narayan Rane said, his son’s protest was for right reason but the method was not correct.
