The coal production from captive and commercial coal blocks increased by 58 per cent in the last five months as compared to the same period of 2021-22. According to the Ministry of Coal, 43.93 million tonnes of coal was produced during April to August this fiscal. The ministry said, currently 37 captive and commercial coal mines are operational and around 11 more new mines are expected to start production during this year. It said, the addition of new coal mines is expected to significantly contribute to meet coal demand in the country.
