CM to undertake aerial survey of flood-hit Assam today

Assam Chief Minister Sarbanand Sonowal will make an aerial survey of the Barak valley today and also review the flood situation with district administrations. 

Flood situation in Upper Assam has started improving due to receding of water but the situation in Lower Assam remains unchanged. 

18 persons have lost their lives due to flood and landslides. More than 50 lakh people are affected in 30 districts and over one lakh people have taken shelter at relief camps. 

Six animals including 2 rhinos drowned in the Kaziranga National Park. Around 18 thousand people were evacuated by various agencies yesterday. 

Five columns of the army are pressed into rescue work. 

Centre has released 251 crore rupees to Assam for disaster management. Jal Shakti Minister Gajendra Singh Sekhawat informed this yesterday after taking the aerial survey of flood-affected areas. He also stressed on the formation of the North East Water Management Authority as recommended by the high-level committee headed by Vice Chairman of the NITI Aayog.
