The portals of Bhagwan Shree Badrinath Dham, a symbol of the faith of Hindus, will be opened for devotees on May 8 at 6.15 am. As is tradition, on the auspicious day of Basant Panchami today, the royal priests in the Royal court of the royal family of Tehri in Narendranagar arrived upon and announced the date of opening of the portals of the Dham after consulting the birth chart of Tehri King Maharaja Manujyendra Shah. On the occasion of Basant Panchami, the head priest of the temple performed Panchang and Chowki prayers with Vedic chanting and rituals.
As performed every year, for the Mahaabhishek of the diety on April 22, sesame oil will be threaded at the royal court by local married women led by Tehri MP and Maharani Mala Rajya Laxmi Shah. After the oil ceremony, the people of Dimmer Panchayat will perform the‘Gadu Ghada’ Yatra for the temple.
