The Meeting between a High level ministerial committee and farmers representatives is underway in New Delhi. Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar, Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal and MoS Commerce Som Prakash are holding dialogue with farmers representatives.
AIR correspondent reports, farmer leaders present in first round of talks have been invited for the dialogue. The invitation came after consultations among senior BJP leaders over ways to reach farmers’ leaders in order to end the stalemate.
Farmers’ organisations have been agitating against the new farm laws. Government is likely to assure the farmers today about the new reforms, and dispel rumours over the minimum support price for their produce.
Centre has been repeatedly assuring the farmers that the new farm reforms are aimed at doubling their income, and MSP and Mandis will still be in place. It has urged farmers to not harbour misunderstandings regarding the recent agriculture reforms.
