Central govt spending 28 rupees over one kilo rice for poor under GKY, says Nirmala Sitharaman

In Telangana, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman today said that the Central Government is spending 28 rupees over one kilo rice for the poor under Garib Kalyan Yojana. She asked the Kamareddy District Collector, Jitish V Patil, to make available the details of rice distribution to the people at the ration shop. She examined the way the rice is being distributed and interacted with beneficiaries at Beerkur in the district.

The Minister said that the responsibility lies on the local authorities to inform about the government efforts behind the implementation of the scheme. She further said the State Government is contributing only three rupees while the beneficiary is paying one rupee. She said, the food grains are being distributed completely free and asked officials to inform the people.

Ms. Sitharaman is on a three-day visit to the Zaheerabad Lok Sabha Constituency and continues to review the implementation of various schemes. She is also interacting with BJP office bearers to strengthen the party from the grassroots.
