Cabinet approves MoU between ICAI and CPAs, Papua New Guinea

The Cabinet today approved Memorandum of Understanding between the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India, ICAI and the Certified Practising Accountants, Papua New Guinea, to work together in capacity building and strengthening the Accounting, Financial and Audit Knowledge base in Papua New Guinea.

Cabinet also approved the Mutual Recognition Agreement between the ICAI and the Malaysian Institute of Certified Public Accountants, to enable appropriately qualified Chartered Accountant members of either Institute to join the other Institute by receiving appropriate credit for their existing accountancy qualification.

The Cabinet was today apprised of a Memorandum of Understanding, MoU signed between India and Nigeria on cooperation in the exploration and uses of outer space for peaceful purposes.

The MoU was signed between Indian Space Research Organisation, ISRO at Bengaluru in June this year and by National Space Research and Development Agency, NASRDA of Nigeria at Abuja in August this year.

The MoU will provide impetus to explore newer research activities and application possibilities in the field of remote sensing of the earth, satellite communication, satellite navigation, space science and exploration of outer space.

The Cabinet also approved the extension of Market Intervention Scheme, MIS for apple procurement in Jammu and Kashmir for the current season (2020-21) on the same terms and condition as was done in during the last season.

The procurement of apple will be done by Central Procuring Agency, National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation Limited, NAFED through State Designated Agency, Directorate of Planning and Marketing, and Jammu and Kashmir Horticulture Processing and Marketing Corporation  directly from apple farmers of Jammu and Kashmir.

The payment will be made through Direct Benefit Transfer, DBT into bank account of apple farmers. 12 lakh Metric Tonnes of apples can be procured under this scheme.

Government has also allowed NAFED to utilize Government Guarantee of 2 thouand 500 Crore rupees for this operation.

The losses, if any, to be incurred in this operation will be shared between Central Government and UT administration of Jammu and Kashmir on 50:50 basis.        

The  Designated Price Committee of last Season will be continued for the fixation of price of various variety and grades of apples for this season also.

Smooth and continuous implementation of the procurement process will be monitored by a Monitoring Committee under the Chairmanship of Cabinet Secretary at the central level and Implementation and Coordination Committee under the Chairmanship of Chief Secretary at the UT Level.

The decision will provide an effective marketing platform to apple growers and  facilitate employment generation for the local people.

It will ensure remunerative prices for apples resulting in overall income enhancement of farmers in Jammu and Kashmir.
