Bihar govt to fill doctors’ vacant posts through campus recruitment within a year

Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi has said that the vacant posts of doctors will be filled directly through campus recruitment within a year. Inaugurating a conference of cardiologists in Patna yesterday, he said the NDA government is going to open 11 new medical colleges in the state. Mr Modi held the Lalu Prasad and Rabri Devi led RJD governments responsible for the shortage of doctors, nurses and para-medical staff as no new medical and nursing college were opened then. He said, the intake of medical colleges of the state will go up to 1400 from the current academic session. The deputy chief minister said Tamil Nadu with 49 medical colleges has one doctor for 253 people, while Bihar with 13 medical colleges has a doctor-population ratio of 1:3207. As per the World Health Organisation (WHO) standard, there should be one doctor per every 1000 people. He said, the MBBS course have already started in IGIMS, Patna, Bettiah (West Champaran) and Pawapuri (Nalanda). Mr Modi said, Medical colleges at Purnea, Chapra (Saran) and Madhepura are under construction while tender has been floated for the construction of medical college and hospitals at Vaishali, Begusarai, Sitamarhi, Jhanjharpur, and Buxar.
