India’s Bhawna Jat qualified for the 2020 Olympics after setting a new national record in the 20-kilometer race walk category at the National Championships in Ranchi today.
The athlete from Rajasthan clocked 1hour 29 minutes and 54 seconds, well inside the Olympic qualification time of 1hour 31minute 00 seconds.
Bhawna’s effort was a massive improvement on her personal best of 1 hour 38 minute30 seconds set in October last year. Priyanka Goswami narrowly missed the Olympic cut with a timing of 1hour 31minute 36 seconds.
The 2020 Olympics will be held in Tokyo from 24th July to the 9th of August this year.
