Bangladesh: Record COVID deaths in a day, positivity rate declining

COVID 19 pandemic in Bangladesh again claimed a record 264 lives on Tuesday taking the death toll to 23,161.

The same number of deaths was reported on 5 August which is the highest since the pandemic broke out in March last year.

A total of 11,164 new cases of coronavirus infection were also reported on Tuesday. However, the number of active cases has declined to 1.18 lakh from the level of over 1.5 lakh on 2 August.

The sample positivity rate continued to show a declining trend. From a high of 32.55 percent on 24 July, it has declined on a daily basis since 30 July when the positivity rate was recorded at 30.77 percent. On Tuesday, the positivity rate stood at 23.54 percent.

The mass vaccination drive for COVID 19 is continuing in the country with over 19 million shots already being administered till Monday. According to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), till Monday 14.45 million people had received the first dose of the COVID 19 vaccine while 4.73 million people had received both doses.

COVID 19 vaccination drive is continuing in Bangladesh with more than 32,700 vaccinators deployed across 4600 unions, 1054 municipalities and 433 city wards across the country.
