Bangladesh Prime Minister tells United Nations that Myanmar must take back Rohingyas

Bangladesh’s Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina told a visiting UN official that hundreds of thousands of Rohingya refugees living in camps in Bangladesh must return home to Myanmar.

Sheikh Hasina made the comment to UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Michelle Bachelet in Bangladesh’s capital, Dhaka yesterday.

Bachelet arrived in Dhaka on Sunday and visited Rohingya camps in Cox’s Bazar district near the border with Myanmar.

In 2017, more than 7 lakh Rohingyas fled to Bangladesh when the Myanmar military launched an operation against them following attacks by a rebel group. The safety situation in Myanmar has worsened following a military takeover last year.

Currently, Bangladesh is hosting more than 10 lakh Rohingya refugees.
