The government of Bangladesh has further extended the ongoing lockdown in the country till May 30 in order to contain the spread of Coronavirus.
However, further relaxation has been introduced in the latest notification issued by the Cabinet Division on Sunday. The government has decided to resume inter-district movement of public transport with 50 percent passengers. Earlier, public transport was opened for operation only within the district.
Hotels and restaurants will also be allowed to offer dine-in services with 50 percent occupancy of seats. Earlier, they were allowed to provide only take away services for the people.
Bangladesh imposed countrywide lockdown on April 5 which was extended again into a ‘strict lockdown’ on April 14. Since then it has been extended in phases with certain relaxations being introduced from time to time.
All educational institutions have been closed since March last year.
Restrictions on public gathering are in place. Mask wearing is compulsory. However, more than 10 million people travelled to their home towns and villages during the Eid despite restrictions on public transport and movement of people. In the capital city Dhaka, normal life is going on despite the lockdown in the country, though police are enforcing mask wearing at several places of public gathering. Traffic within the city has also returned to the normal level except for the long distance buses which were not operating till Saturday.
