Kerala Social & Cultural Association pompously celebrated the 142nd birth anniversary of its founder leader and social reformer Sri Mannathu Padmanabhan. More than 3000 people attended this celebration named “Hariharalayam” held at Indian School Bahrain. Chief guest of the event Member of Parliament and popular film actor Suresh Gopi inaugurated the function. President Pambavasan Nair presided the function and spoke about the contributions made by the charismatic leader towards the community and the society. General Secretary Santhosh Kumar presented the welcome speech.
The association felicitated three eminent personalities from different fields. Mannam Award was presented to the renowned poet, lyricist and scholar Sri Ramesan Nair. He has written lyrics for more than 400 film songs and 2000 devotional songs. He has translated many Tamil literature to Malayalam. He was bestowed with more than 50 awards and accolades including the prestigious Kendra Sahithya Academy Award 2018. A jury of 5 members with Anil Kumar as the Chairman unanimously selected Ramesan Nair as the Mannam Awardee.
Star Icon Award was presented to Sri Jagadish Kumar, the versatile film actor, screenwriter and judge of many popular television programs for his outstanding contributions to the Indian Cinema. Jagadish has established the image of the comic hero who evokes spontaneous laughter with his own brand of humour. He is the chief judge for the comedy programme Comedy Stars in Asianet and anchored the channel’s organized award functions. He always believes in presenting comedy skits giving meaningful messages across to the society. A gifted and committed actor who knows to captivate his audience with his excellent performances.
Pravasi Ratna award for business excellence was presented to K.G Baburajan, an eminent businessman in Bahrain and Qatar. He is the Chairman and Managing Director of BKG Holdings and Qatar Engineering Laboratories. He was part of many prestigious and large projects in the Kingdom with his skills in geotechnical site investigation and quality control testing. He is the only Indian member of US-based scientific body International Accreditation Service.
A members directory was released first time in the history of the association after 36 years of its incorporation. The E-directory presented to the members will thus enable them to maintain their membership details and communicate with each other from anywhere across the globe.
Teachers of the Malayalam and Sanskrit classes were presented with mementos for their selfless services on this occasion.
Musical programme by popular playback singers Sreenath and Janaki, comedy show by comedy artist Suneesh Varanad and other entertainment programs by members were also highlights of the function.
Vice President Jayakumar presented the vote of thanks. Members of the Executive Committee, General Convener Praveen Nair, General Coordinator Jyothi Menon and Members Directory Convener Haridas B Nair made valuable contribution towards the grand success of this mega event.
