Bahrain urged on Thursday its citizens against traveling to Iraq in wake of recent violent protests.
The Foreign Ministry called on all Bahrainis present in Iraq to leave
“immediately” for their own safety and security. It urged them
to exercise the utmost caution, keep away from unrest and observe the
instructions of the competent local authorities, read a statement carried by
Bahrain’s news agency (BNA). Anti-government protests have been sweeping Iraq for
three days.
The protests, in which at least 20 have now been
killed and over 600 wounded, began over unemployment and poor services but have
escalated into calls for a change of government and pose one of the worst
security challenges in years.
