Ayushman Bharat – the Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana has completed one year of its launch today and the day is being celebrated as Ayushman Bharat Diwas across the country.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said that Ayushman Bharat is more than just a health care scheme as it is a beacon of hope to more than 50 crore of India’s most vulnerable people.
In a tweet, Mr Modi said, it is breaking the vicious cycle of poverty and disease while making health care affordable and accessible.
In a tweet, Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan said, Ayushman Bharat, has been billed as the world’s largest government health care programme.
Talking exclusively to AIR News, Chief Executive Officer of Ayushman Bharat Indu Bhushan said, government has de-panelled 97 hospitals for wrong practices and violation of norms. He said, the government is moving forward to empanel more and more hospitals.
Mr Bhushan said, Centre is taking several initiatives and working on improving the quality of service. He said, it is also improving the Information Technology system and rationalizing the health benefit packages.
Our Correspondent reports, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had launched the scheme on this day from Ranchi, Jharkhand last year. The main aim of the scheme is to provide universal health care to the poor, needy and vulnerable sections of the country.
The scheme, which is the world’s largest health care programme, provides a health cover of five lakh rupees annually to vulnerable families and aims at benefiting more than ten crore poor families all over the country. In the last one year, more than 46 lakh beneficiaries have availed cashless treatment under the scheme.
This has resulted in saving of over 12 thousand crore rupees to the beneficiary families. Currently, 32 States and Union Territories are implementing the scheme and more than 10 crore beneficiary cards have been issued.
Over eighteen thousand hospitals are providing services across the country, out of which more than 50 per cent are private hospitals. With Dipendra, Anand
