Union Home Minister Amit Shah has set the deadline for the sky-high Ram Temple within the next four months. The announcement came in when Shah was addressing a public rally at Pakur in Jharkhand ahead of the elections. Amit Shah declared that the Ram Temple will be constructed in Ayodhya within four months.
The Ayodhya Case:
In what can be touted as the longest land dispute of India, the Supreme Court this year ruled in favour of the Hindu petitioners in the Ayodhya Babri Masjid case. A five-judge bench, headed by the then Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi, had in a unanimous verdict decreed the 2.77 acre disputed land in favour of deity ‘Ram Lalla’. The bench directed the Centre to allot a five-acre plot to Sunni Waqf Board to build a mosque in an alternate location Ayodhya.
Post the verdict, the SC received 18 review petitions to review the verdict from various parties – both from Muslim and Hindu side. The bench rejected all the 18 review petitions in-chamber. Nine of the pleas were filed by parties who were part of the earlier litigation and the other nine were filed by “third parties”. The Supreme Court had ruled in the favour of the Ram temple on November 9.
On 12 December this month, the Supreme Court rejected all pleas in connection to the case – most of which were filed by Muslim boards against the ruling that went in favour of the deity ‘Ram Lalla.’
