The Government expects to auction the 5G spectrum by April or May next year, the Communications, IT and railways minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said on Thursday, November 11, 2021.
“Currently the telecom regulator is working on it and once they send their recommendations, we will be able to start the auction,” the IT and railways minister said at the Times Now Summit 2021.
Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnav said that the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) expects the telecom regulator to send its recommendations by the end of February or early March next year. “The TRAI consultation is fairly comprehensive and a huge exercise,” he added.
Meanwhile, the IT and railways minister said the government is working towards improving the profitability of the telecom sector and that the root cause of the extensive litigation in the sector was the complex regulatory structure. “In line with the vision of the Prime Minister, you will see that the policy thrust will now shift towards simplification of the regulatory framework,” he added.
IT and railways minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said the full potential of the reforms which have been announced and the next wave of reforms, will be completed in the next two to three years.
