ATM crook dupes retired cop’s wife in Mira Road

BHAYANDAR: The 57-year-old wife of a retired cop became the latest victim of ATM crooks, after she lost Rs27,379 to a debit card fraud. According to the FIR at the Kashimira police station, an unidentified man fled with her debit card and the knowledge of its PIN on the pretext of helping her withdraw money.

The incident was reported from the ATM of a reputed bank in the Sanghvi Nagar area of Mira Road when Shoba Salve (57) went there to withdraw money using her debit card.

When she encountered a problem during the withdrawal, the cheat posing as a customer-in queue, stepped in to help her. He observed the PIN she entered in the system after punching the card.

The crook hurriedly left the booth, but not before replacing the card with a swift sleight of hand. The crook used the card and its memorised PIN to withdraw Rs27,379 via three ATM transactions.
