America would welcome India’s efforts to end Russia-Ukraine war

America would welcome any step by India or any other country to end the Russia-Ukraine war. ‘The steps to establish peace keeping in mind, the sovereignty and in consonance with the international law would be a welcome move’, said the Spokesperson of the US Foreign Affairs Ministry Mathew Miller.

Miller was addressing the media that the war has proved a diplomatic failure of Russia. It has lost a large number of military personnel and arms. Russia has seen that its status in the world is adversely affected. The sanctions against Russia imposed by the US, have also affected its economy, Miller said.

Miller said that the US respects the countries which supported Ukraine right since the beginning of the war, and is continuing to do so. USA is ready to welcome anyone who makes efforts to re-establish peace in Ukraine. Last month, US President Joe Biden and Prime Minister Narendra Modi issued a joint statement relating to the war and called it dangerous.

In another development, Turkey has extended its consent for Sweden’s inclusion in North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO). The green signal was given on Monday, a day prior to the NATO Summit being held in Lithuania’s Capital Vilnius. NATO Chief Jens Stoltenberg has expressed happiness over it.

Stoltenberg announced that Turkey has agreed for Sweden’s membership of NATO. This is an important development in Sweden’s efforts to join NATO. Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan was a major hurdle in the path of Sweden. Erdogan had said that Sweden can join NATO only when Turkey is accepted in the UNO.

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese in Berlin jointly welcomed Turkey’s decision and expressed hope of bringing Sweden under NATO fold.

US President Joe Biden has also welcomed the decision and said that he is eager to welcome Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson and Sweden as 32nd member of NATO.
