Nelliampathy: An ambulance with a Covid patient was blocked by a herd of elephants for over 2 hours near Kunarachola on the Nelliyampathy ghat road. The incident happened on Wednesday night.
43-year old Karnataka man, employed in the Railways, was under observation at his home in Nelliampathy when he tested Covid positive the other day. The 108 ambulance arrived at his home to take him to a hospital at around 8 pm and on way to the hospital the vehicle was surrounded by a herd of elephants.
Generally elephant herd which stray on to roads enter the forest on seeing vehicles but on that day, they did not move an inch. The health workers from the Nelliampathy primary health centre was also escorting the vehicle.
At about 11 pm, a forest guard reached the place and the herd slowly began to disperse and walked into the forest. After the herd left, the patient was taken to the hospital in Palakkad.
Vadakkanchery panchayat closed
After the panchayat president and a member were confirmed with Covid, the Vadakancherry panchayat was shut down. The antigen test of those who were closely associated with the Covid patients would be done on Tuesday and a decision to open the panchayat will be taken after the results are out.
