In Nepal, the death toll from floods and landslides triggered by heavy rains has gone to 78. Thirty persons are still missing and fifty have been injured.
Our Kathmandu correspondent reports that normal life in 31 districts, mostly in Tarai region affected due to heavy rainfall.
Hundreds of houses have been damaged and thousands of people were displaced due to floods and landslides in the last six days. Transportation, electricity, water and communication services were also disrupted in many parts of the country.
Relief and rescue operations are in full swing in the affected areas. Nepal Army and Police personnel have safely rescued more than 3,000 people so far. Efforts are on to restore all essential services.
Relief material is being distributed in the rain-hit areas and medical teams have been sent to prevent waterborne diseases.
Meanwhile, the situation is slowly improving. According to Flood Forecasting Division, water in major rivers is likely to remain at a normal level in the next three days.
Meteorological Forecasting Division forecast rain at some places. There are also chances of heavy rainfall at one or two places of the eastern and western regions.
