President Droupadi Murmu has said that India’s relations with Qatar are steeped in history, spanning centuries, and that Qatar has been an integral part of West Asia’s commercial and cultural linkages with India. Welcoming the Amir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani, at Rashtrapati Bhavan last evening, the President emphasized that the multi-faceted engagement and cooperation between the two countries are marked by a deep sense of comfort and time-tested goodwill. She highlighted that the two countries are reliable partners in trade, investment, food security, health, culture, and energy.
The President also suggested that India and Qatar should leverage their respective strengths to broaden cooperation in innovation, technology, and start-ups. She emphasized the importance of both nations working together for peace, progress, and prosperity, not only for the people of India and Qatar, but for all people of the world.
Both leaders agreed that elevating the India-Qatar relationship to the level of a ‘strategic partnership’ will create a roadmap for even closer engagement.
President Droupadi Murmu also hosted a banquet in honour of the visiting leader.
