Thane: Due to heavy rains over the past three days, lowlying areas of Bhiwandi and Ulhasnagar were waterlogged. The lowlying Nadi Naka, Shelar village, Durga Apartment and Latif compound areas in Bhiwandi experienced heavy rains.
People had to wade through knee-deep water to work and do their house chores. Importantly, Kamvari Lake and Khoni Lake overflowed. Most complaints came from Nadi Naka and Shelar village, as water entered people’s houses and shops. Nadi Naka residents shifted to their relatives’ places.
Blaming and cursing the authorities, a Nadi Naka resident, Umesh Tiwari, said, “The gram panachayat authority did not clean the nullah properly, resulting in waterlogging in the area.”
Traffic snarls
Due to waterlogging, Gujarat-bound vehicles, who had to cross Nadi Naka, were stuck in a traffic jam, which lasted over an hour. Many motorists stopped there, when their vehicles developed mechanical issues.
In Ulhasnagar, where water entered the houses and shops near furniture market, the shopkeepers from Aman talkies and Nehru Chowk, too, complained of waterlogging.
Locals blamed the Ulhasnagar Municipal Corporation (UMC) for the mess, as it did not clean nullahs properly, resulting in waterlogging in the lowlying areas.
