Minister of State for Home G Kishan Reddy has attacked the Congress party on the issue of violation of human rights and misuse of sedition law.
Replying to a question in the Lower House by Congress MP Anumula Revath Reddy on the details of the number of cases registered under the offence of sedition across the country during the last 10 years the minister said that it was Modi government that has maintained the figures of sedition cases separately unlike the earlier Congress regimes.
Declaring the figures prepared by the National Crime Record Bureau; the minister said that the Modi government has nothing to hide. According to the NCRB figures available till 2019 the respective numbers of sedition cases filed are:
2014 – 47
2015 – 30
2016 – 35
2017 – 51
2018 – 70
2019 – 93
Not satisfied with the answer when Congress MPs Anumula Revath Reddy and former minister Manish Tiwari insisted on a specific reply and figures post 2019 till 26th January this year by the government in the Disha Ravi case who has been granted conditional bail and the so called farmers arrested on the Republic Day this year; the minister attacked the Congress reminding it of the draconian TADA and MISA Act alleging how innocent people including journalists and senior political leaders like J P Narayan, former Prime Minister of India Atal Behari Vajpayi and former Deputy PM L K Advani were targeted.
