Vice Admiral Ajit Kumar, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Western Command of the Indian Navy, retired on Sunday, replacing Vice Admiral R Hari Kumar as Commander of the Western Naval Command. Vice Admiral Ajit Kumar served in the Indian Navy for forty years.
According to a Navy spokesman, the outgoing and new commander-in-chief was given a guard of honor at a ceremony held today at the command post of the headquarters of the Western Naval Command, after which the new flag officer was formally The baton was handed over. Earlier, R Hari Kumar was the Vice Chief of Defense Staff.
He has served as Commandant of Naval War College in Goa, Flag Officer C Training, Flag Officer Commanding Western Fleet, Chief of Staff in Western Naval Command, Controller Personnel Services and Chief of Personnel in NHQ, according to the spokesman.
Vice Admiral R Hari Kumar was the Vice Chief of Defense Staff before taking over as Western Naval Command. He has received the Vishisht Seva Medal, Ati Vishisht Seva Medal and Param Vishisht Seva Medal for distinguished service.
The outgoing Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief Vice-Admiral Ajit Kumar today stepped down from the Navy service. The Admiral took this naval command on 31 January 19. The Western Naval Command during its tenure saw extensive operational deployment in response to the development of security situation in the Indian Ocean region following the Pulwama attack and the Galvan crisis.
