Jat Regiment and Delhi Police got the best marching squad award in the Republic Day Parade-2021

The Jat Regiment has won the best marching squad award for Republic Day 2021. Defense Minister Rajnath Singh presented the award to the Jat Regiment. During the Republic Day parade, the Jat Regiment contingent was declared the first by the Judging Committee of the Ministry of Defense. The marching squad of Delhi Police was voted the best among the Central Armed Police Forces and other auxiliary forces. Jat Regiment

The Jat Regiment is part of the Indian Army’s infantry. It is one of the longest serving and best equipped regiments.

The regiment has won 19 battle honors between 1839 and 1947.

Post independence, the Jat Regiment has won five battle honors, eight Mahavir Chakras, eight Kirti Chakras, 32 Shaurya Chakras, 39 Vir Chakras and 170 Sena medals.

During its 200-year service history this regiment has participated in various functions in India and abroad, including the First and Second World Wars.

The regiment originated from the Calcutta Native Militia, formed in 1795, which later became a battalion of the infantry of the Bengal Army.

After 1860, there was a substantial increase in the recruitment of Jats in the British Indian Army.

The Class Regiment, the Jats, was initially formed in 1897 as infantry units of the old battalions of the Bengal Army. In the same way, there are many more.

The first battalion was formed in 1803 as the 22nd Bengal Native Infantry. The second and third battalions were then formed in 1817 and 1823 respectively.

All three battalions won several honors during the First World War.

At the time of the classification of regiments of the Indian Army in January 1922, the 9th Jat Regiment was formed by merging four active battalions and one training battalion.

Battles fought in these wars

After the independence of the country, India-Pakistan war of 1947-1948, Sino-Indian war of 1962, conflict with Pakistan in 1965 and 1971 and Jat regiment in Sri Lanka and Sorchen participated.

Five of the battalions of the Jat Regiment participated in the 1999 Kargil War.

The Jat Regiment has also contributed to UN missions in Korea and Congo. It has also been involved in counter-terrorism operations and is a strong part of the Indian Army since independence.
