A public interest litigation was filed by one Khaja Aizajudin in High Court, Hydrebad against Twitter for allowing trending of long hatred tweets with hashtags promoting hatred against Islam and projecting Muslims as spreading Covid 19. The trending was stopped only after High Court issues notices to Twitter and Central Government, claimed the petitioner. The petitioner also complained that Twitter and Central Government had not filed their replies in the said case.
In connection with the petition, Senior Counsel Sajan Poovaya appeared before the bench representing Twitter and sought two weeks time to file reply, informing that Twitter had complied with the norms. He informed the court that since the counter has to be submitted by his client in San Francisco in USA which is the headquarters for Twitter Inc.
