Thiruvananthapuram: Government will examine the possibility of passing an ordinance in order to cut a percentage of the salary of government employees. The matter will be discussed during the cabinet meeting on Wednesday. This is because the High Court stayed the government order on salary cut after organizations affiliated to the opposition party filed a petition.
Government sources also claimed the salary distribution in April will be delayed. The government is firm on the opinion that the salary cut will take place from April onwards and have also decided to not file an appeal against the court order as per government sources.
The government did not get a copy of the HC order until Tuesday evening. The possibility of passing an ordinance in this regard as part of the public health crisis is more likely. With this the government wants to overturn the HC ruling that the decision to defer the payment of salaries of government employees is unlawful.
Irrespective what the court order is, the government does not have enough money to pay the complete salary for the month of April. In this context, they have no other option but to cut 20 percent of the salary (6 days) each month.
Even if the government decides to pay the whole amount, the salary distribution will be delayed. The bill has been prepared for April excluding the 6 days salary. New bills will have to be prepared in order to pay the full salary now.
