50 lakh doses of COVID-19 vaccine from Serum Institute of India arrive in Dhaka

The first instalment of 50 lakh doses of the COVID 19 vaccine from Serum Institute of India (SII) arrived in Dhaka on Monday morning. This is part of the agreement for the purchase of 30 million doses of the vaccine for which Beximco Pharmaceuticals Limited (BPL) had signed a tripartite agreement with the SII on December 13 last year.

The remaining doses of the vaccine will arrive in Bangladesh over the next few months, as per the agreement.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is scheduled to inaugurate the vaccination programme in Dhaka from Wednesday. A nurse of the Kurmitola general hospital in Dhaka will receive the first vaccine shot.

Government of Bangladesh has made preparations to start the vaccination process from the first week of February.

The first consignment of 2 million doses of COVID 19 vaccine as gift from India was received by Bangladesh on Thursday.
