Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Kiren Rijiju today conferred the National Youth Awards for 2016-17 on twenty individuals and three organisations at a function in New Delhi today on the occasion of International Youth Day.
The awards are presented to young persons and voluntary organization every year in recognition of their outstanding work in the field of national development and social service. The awards aim towards encouraging them to develop a sense of responsibility to the community and also to improve their own potential as a good citizen.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr Rijiju said, for any nation, the determination to take the country at a different level is totally dependent on the contribution of the youth. Mr Rijiju said, there is a huge population of the youth in the country and if they work in a coordinated manner then country will achieve greater heights.
Our correspondent reports that an individual award comprises a medal, a certificate and cash prize of 50 thousand rupees while a cash prize of two lakh rupees is given to the youth organisation.
Besides, three awards were also given to individuals for the photo exhibition on China through Eyes of Indian Youth-2019.
