2 militants open fire on security forces in highway attack in Jammu

Two suspected militants exchanged fire with security forces on Batote-Doda highway in Ramban district on Saturday morning.

Two suspicious men tried to stop a civil vehicle on NH244 in Batote. However, the driver was alert and didn’t stop the vehicle.

“At about 7:30 am, two suspicious individuals tried to stop a civil vehicle in general area Batote on NH 244. The driver of vehicle was alert, did not stop the vehicle, rushed and informed the nearest Army post. Quick reaction team reacted promptly and a contact was established with suspicious individuals.” Defence spokesman Lt Col Devender Anand said.

Exchange of fire between suspected militants and officials is on-going.

“Exchange of fire took place. The operation is still on. The suspected ultras are hiding in a nullah but they have been cordoned. Additional reinforcements have been rushed to the place,” Anand added.
