11 new medical colleges to be set up in Tamil Nadu: PM Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday, Dr. MGR of Tamil Nadu Attended the 33rd Convocation of the Medical University via video conference. Over 21000 students were awarded degrees and diplomas at the convocation. Tamil Nadu Governor Banwarilal Purohit was also present on the occasion. During this, PM Modi said that the Central Government gave permission for the establishment of MBBS College in Tamil Nadu.

Women are achieving success in every field

During this time, the PM expressed happiness over seeing more than 70 percent women candidates among those who got degrees and diplomas. He said that more than 21000 students are being given degrees or diplomas, of which 70 percent are women. Today women are achieving success in every field. He congratulated all the graduates and gave special praise to the female candidates. He said that it is always special to see women in any field. When this happens, it is a moment of pride and a moment of happiness.

World’s trust in India’s health sector increased

Addressing the students, PM Modi said that the world’s trust in India’s health sector has increased. The world has high expectations from the country. The PM said that during the Corona challenge, India not only showed the way but also helped various countries. You are graduating at a time when the world’s trust in India’s health sector has increased. The world has high expectations from the country. He said that India is producing medicines and vaccines for the world. In COVID-19, India has one of the lowest mortality and highest recovery rates in the world.

Changes in Medical Education and Healthcare Sector

He said that we are making changes in the entire medical education and healthcare sector. During the last 6 years, MBBS seats have increased by more than 30 thousand, which is an increase of more than 50 percent since 2014. The number of PG seats has increased by 24 thousand which is an increase of about 80 percent since 2014. In 2014, there were 6 AIIMS in the country but in the last 6 years 15 more AIIMS have been approved across the country.

MGR is known for working in the health sector

The Prime Minister said that the success of the students and the institute would have made the great MGR very happy. PM Modi recalled that MGR’s rule was full of pity for the poor. She loved the subjects of women’s health, education and empowerment. He said that India is known in Sri Lanka for working in the health sector for our Tamil sisters and brothers where MGR was born. The India-funded ambulance service is widely used by the Tamil community in Sri Lanka.

Establishment of 11 new medical colleges

The Prime Minister announced that the government has allowed the establishment of 11 new medical colleges in Tamil Nadu in districts which do not have medical colleges. For these medical colleges, the Government of India will pay more than Rs 2000 crore. He said that the PM Atma Swasthya Swachh Bharat Scheme announced in the budget would boost the capabilities of primary, secondary and tertiary healthcare to detect new and emerging diseases.
