To bridge the price gap between producing and consuming states, govt will bear cost of transportation and storage: Agriculture Minister

Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has said that the government will bear the cost of transportation and storage to bridge the price gap between producing and consuming states. During a review meeting with the agriculture ministers of the states and Union Territories in New Delhi on Saturday, Mr. Chouhan informed that this year the growth rate of the agriculture sector and allied sectors is likely to be between 3.5 percent and 4 percent. He also informed that under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi, an amount of around 3.46 lakh crore rupees has been distributed to 11 crore farmers in 18 installments.

Mr. Chouhan said that many measures have been taken, including the arrangement of loans at low interest on Kisan Credit. He said that there is continuous progress in the agriculture sector and the ministry is constantly making efforts for it. He informed that another campaign is being run to promote the natural farming mission due to the damage being caused to the earth by the uncontrolled use of chemical fertilizers.
