Satluj Jal Vidyut Nigam (SJVN)’s Nathpa Jhakri Hydro Power Station has clocked the highest ever monthly power generation, surpassing its previous record of 1,213.10 million units to 1,216.56 million units on 31st July 2021.
Similarly, the Rampur Hydro Power Station also achieved 335.90 million units of power in the month of July this year, surpassing its previous best power generation record of 333.69 million units in July last year.
The design energy of 1,500 MW Nathpa Jhakri Hydroelectric Power Plant is 6,612 million units and the 412 MW Rampur Hydro Power Station is 1,878 million units.
The journey of Satluj Jal Vidyut Nigam (SJVN)
Satluj Jal Vidyut Nigam (SJVN) is a Mini Ratna & Schedule ‘A’ Public Sector Undertaking (PSU) under the administrative control of the Ministry of Power, Government. of India. The firm started its journey on May 24, 1988 as a joint venture of the Government of India (GOI) and the Government of Himachal Pradesh (GOHP).
Starting with a single project and single State operation (i.e. India’s largest 1,500 MW Nathpa Jhakri Hydro Power Station in Himachal Pradesh) the firm has commissioned five projects accumulating 2,015.2 MW of installed capacity including wind and solar power. Presently, SJVN is implementing power projects in the states like Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Bihar, Maharashtra and Gujarat. Notably, the firm is also implementing power projects in neighboring countries viz. Nepal and Bhutan.
SJVN is now a listed organisation having shareholders’ ownership of 59.92% with the Government of India, 26.85% with Government of Himachal Pradesh and rest of 13.23% with the public. Started with a single hydro project in the year 1988, today, SJVN has a portfolio of 9,000 MW, out of which 2,016.5 MW is under operation, 3,156 MW is under construction, and 4,046 MW Projects in pipeline. The present paid up capital and authorized capital of the firm stands at Rs. 3,929.80 crore and Rs. 7,000 crore respectively. As of 2019, the net worth of SJVN is Rs.11,238.78 crore.
Additionally, the company has also diversified in other fields of energy generation and transmission. SJVN is working towards achieving an installed capacity of 5,000 MW by 2023, 12,000 MW by 2030, and 25,000 MW by the end of 2040.
