Over 16 crore COVID vaccines provided free of cost by Centre to States/UTs; 59 lakh more doses on the way

Acting on a ‘whole of government’ approach to combat COVID-19 pandemic, the government of India has so far provided nearly 16.54 crore vaccine doses to States and Union Territories (UTs) in the country for free of cost. Till date, the total consumption including wastages stands at 15,79,21,537 vaccine doses.

Presently, over 75 lakh COVID Vaccine doses are still available with the States and UTs to be administered. Further, to ramp up the world largest vaccination drive, within the next 3 days more than 59 lakh vaccine doses will be allotted to States and UTs.

In terms of vaccine administration, Maharashtra tops the chart by inoculating over 1.6 crore vaccines followed by Rajasthan (1.34 crore), Gujarat (1.3 crore), Uttar Pradesh (1.3 crore), and West Bengal ( 1.1 crore ).

Uttar Pradesh has the most number of balance availability of doses with over 14 lakh vaccines followed by Bihar (8.6 lakh), Jharkhand (5.5 lakh), Hayana (4.9 lakh) and Delhi (3.8 lakh)

As of 3th May, Lakshadweep reported the highest vaccine wastage with 9.7 percent, followed by Tamil Nadu (8.83 percent ), Assam (7.70 percent), Manipur (7.44 percent), and Haryana (5.72 percent).

Meanwhile, the total number of COVID tests conducted in the country has crossed the milestone mark of 29.16 crore today. India’s cumulative recoveries now stand at 1,62,93,003 with 3,00,732 people recovering from the infection in the last 24 hours.

Marking that vaccination forms an imperative component of the five point strategy of Government of India to containment and management of the COVID19, implementation of the liberalised and accelerated Phase 3 strategy of COVID-19 vaccination was started on 1st May 2021.

Registration for the new eligible population groups (18-44 years) has commenced since 28th April.

Alternatively, one can also register for vaccination through the Aarogya Setu App.
