Defence Minister Rajnath Singh underscored the need to strengthen the country’s offensive and defensive responses in view of the growing tension in the defence and security environment. He said the complexities of a country’s defence forces are increasing with time. He was addressing an event organised to commemorate 2024 as the Year of Naval Civilians in New Delhi today. Mr. Singh stressed that the military is surging forward with a big mandate and complex structure. He asserted that patriotism, valour, and discipline help the soldiers fulfil their responsibility of protecting the country from threats and challenges. He said the nation’s economic prosperity is linked to maritime security, and it is necessary to protect territorial waters, ensure freedom of navigation, and maintain sea routes. Mr. Singh described cybersecurity as an important aspect of maritime security in today’s times, stating that ignoring cyber attacks can prove fatal.
