Making right moves on the right path!

India is up against the pandemic and is almost near an emphatic win. The spread has been arrested successfully except for a few ‘clusters’ here and there. Thanks to the government fully committed to drive the country to safety, we have been able to achieve a tremendous victory over the invisible enemy.

Our strategy, all along, has been to identify, isolate and, immunize the patient; the methodology is very simple – ‘strengthen the patient and weaken the virus’. The campaign is really paying off. Hopefully, in a couple of weeks from now, India would be free of Corona and we would be back to normal life with all the sweet or sour memories of staying home for so long.

We can understand the difficulty of being inactive and being stranded at home. But the hue and cry by certain elements smacks of the intensity and seriousness of the gravest problem. The utter disregard and indifference shown by these vested interests had almost landed the country in direst situation. These parties kept feeding the people with disinformation and ill advices with the sole aim of bringing disrepute to the government – for their narrow political gains.

People of India acted with so much of maturity and utmost diligence; kept the trouble mongers at bay; followed the directions of the government scrupulously; won decisively against the ’penetrating virus’ – in whatever form it came to them.

The most challenging phase is coming to an end with least possible damage to the lives of 130 crore people here – that too in less than 2 months. The meticulous plans and well executed tests and treatment ensured that the deadly virus could not play havoc as it did in the USA and in the European countries. Now as we stand safe and secured, do we acknowledge and appreciate the extraordinary performance of the Government – the Central and the State?

We have a number of ‘leaders’ who are issuing all sorts of statements advising the government, cautioning the government and even threatening the government. This apart, what else could they do these days to mitigate the sufferings of the people at large? Their contribution is a very big zero

whereas they could have played a constructive role in educating the public and in saving them from getting into the virus zone. Alas! That was not to be.

Sadly the opposition lost a chance to move closer to the people. But they preferred to play the usual politics and their agenda was confined to throwing mud at whatever good is done by the government.

For example, the general secretary of a left party has given an interview to a national daily. The captions says – ‘Centre is behaving like a big brother by centralizing authority’. He says –‘not only fiscal federalism but political federalism is also being adversely affected’. The Left parties who are more loyal to ’imported’ ideology must not speak aloud about federalism.

Their ‘leaders’ were visibly shaken to know that the world is veering around against the suspicious behavior of China in the immediate aftermath of the outbreak of Corona. The kits that they have supplied are said to be of sub-standard quality and are likely to be returned with a ‘thanks’. But these ‘comrades’ are not ready to let it go.

To play a dirty politics in everything has been the working style of the Left in India. They do not care too much about possible damage it can create to the overall performance of the government or the adverse impact it would have in the minds of the public. It is only befitting that they are being thrown out of race and is being dwarfed into a small group of jokers desperately making all sorts of senseless gesticulations.

They make an unwarranted entry into the picture and shout from the roof tops that there is a ‘conspiracy’ behind these accusations and that these are the ‘sinister designs’ of supporters of ‘American imperialism’. And there is a ‘media professor’ in Tamilnadu who is so aggressive against the people pointing fingers at China.

What if someone says something against China? Let the government of China face the question and answer the critics. Why should a man from a ‘sold out’ party (for 50 crores!) keep barking from our soil? This has been the practice of the Left all along.

Australia has set an example and has shown the very right spirit while defending the interests of its people. It has called the bluff of the Chinese authorities and has strongly registered its protest against the ‘threat’ by China of boycotting Australia in the import of beef from there.

No country in the world is really ‘enthused’ to have a stronger trade relationship with China as nobody is ready to accept the words of the Chinese government at its face value. China will have to explain a lot and will have to cover quite a long distance to regain the lost credibility in the international arena.

In the given circumstances, there is a much stronger likelihood that the world economy will tilt away from China and look towards India for the future. United States of America, European countries, Japan and Australia would be happy to further strengthen their ties with India rather than going ahead with China against the wishes, emotions and sentiments of their own people.

Our Prime Minister has already made enough hints that India would only be too happy to welcome the investments that are likely to be diverted – away from an earlier destination. We do fervently

hope that the government would not let this opportunity to go and would do everything possible to seize it with both hands firmly and permanently.

While the men in power are planning to make the best out of the emerging post-corona developments, the opposition parties are still not able to foresee the glorious openings and numerous avenues opening up for us. The pity is that even the Congress is unable to see the fast changing scenario in International Trade.

Congress party as the principal opposition party, as a grand old party and as a party having been in power with many stalwarts on its side ought to have played a more constructive role. It would have been so good for Indian polity if the Congress had come out with a non-political, people friendly, long term plans and that would helped its own prospects in future.

It is most unfortunate that the Congress party did not come up to its full potential and it really is very disappointing. There are quite a lot of people who are unhappy or are angered with the government for some reason or the other. These people have genuine concerns and apprehensions and who can echo their voices except the Congress? It is high time the frontline leaders of the Congress revisit their plans and arrive at a more acceptable strategy that would earn a wider support for the party. It is truly important today that the Congress stands up strong and speaks for the people of India.

In the present situation that demands united, coherent efforts to tide over the crisis, leaders like Dr. Manmohan Singh could offer advices that would benefit the nation and the world. The government too on its part may ensure that the expertise of the former prime minister is respectfully sought and fully made use of to effectively put the economy back on rails.

The lockdown and the resultant problems could be overcome in a month or two and hopefully, the normal functioning would be restored and would be in full swing in near future.  While we have to address the present crisis in all sincerity with a humanitarian approach, we should look far beyond and work for long term benefits as well.

We must lay the road for the countries that are set to turn their faces against China. For all of them the next natural destination would be India and the change over should be as smooth as possible without in any way hurting our relationship with China.

We do not canvass for an ‘exit’ as we do not campaign for an ‘exodus’. We do not play a partisan role as we do not ever engage in spoil sport. We neither support nor oppose any move by any country to ‘try’ China for the massive outbreak of Corona that affected millions; that claimed lakhs of lives; that has crippled the economies of many countries; that has devastated the plans of the governments, of the peoples all over the world.

The world, post corona, is bound to be different; it would set out a very different equation in the world order. The opposition parties, the ‘left’ leaders’ and vested interests of imported ideologies can have the ‘comfort’ of being ignorant and indifferent. But a responsible government has to act responsibly. Going by the cautious yet confident approach of the government to the whole issue of international trade and relations, we do believe that we are on the right path, moving in the right direction towards a goal that would for sure make every Indian rightfully proud. Let us hope for the best.
