Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday started < Main Bhi Chowkidar > campaign and this has become an instant hit, so much so that it is topping the Worldwide trends. This Campaign is possibly a direct counter of Rahul Gandhi’s oft repeated < Chowkidar chor hai > jibe. The Prime Minister Narendra Modi has often used the personal abuse or jibes by the opposition particularly coming from the  congress leaders like Sonia, Rahul and Mani Shanker Aiyer prominently to his advantage and to the massive Vote appeal.

The most infamous Chaiwala jibe came handy for Narendra Modi before the 2014 elections and he transformed it in to Namo Chai Party and Namo Chai Brigade made it big campaign across India and which actually became an emotional standpoint. The present Main Bhi Chowkidar campaign is trending as the Top most trend Worldwide with 300k Tweets presently.

In a tweet redefining the term Chowkidar by inducing every citizen, the PM said, “Everyone who is fighting corruption, dirt, social evils is a Chowkidar. Everyone working hard for the progress of India is a Chowkidar. Today, every Indian is saying-#MainBhiChowkidar,” wrote the PM.

The PM has often addressed himself as a ‘chowkidar’ of nation, as a metaphor of a PM in safeguarding country’s interests. This while the opposition particularly Rahul Gandhi and Congress party has used videos, memes and cartoons in their tweets and also while addressing speeches including the Chowkidar as the rhetoric, by accusing the  government of corruption particularly the Rafale Deal..
Main bhi chowkidar campaign has come at right time for the BJP and Narendra Modi to use this as a similar one they used in 2014 when Narendra Modi and the BJP took on Manishankar Aiyar’s Chaiwalla jibe as a personal insult and that of hurting aastha.

Many popular handles not only took part in the the campaign, they also shared the personalized reply from the PM :

This has become popular riding on the response coming in the form of a personal message from the Prime Minister Narendra Modi. What would be the reaction of the common man, if such personalised messages are received. This is the very sentiment which has made this hashtag extremely popular on the Twitter and has got up to the top of Trending Charts not just in India but world wide.

Though this is an automated reply, the youth are just ecstatic on receiving such a reply.

BJP says it has been well researched and that ‘Mai Bhi Chowkidar’ has been initiated after extensive pre campaign surveys and data analysis by BJP Social Media and IT Teams and are of the opinion that this would counter frequent use of ‘Chowkidar Chor Hai’ jibes by Rahul Gandhi. Their study seems to have shown that the campaign of Chowkidar Chor Hai, has not been of any use and instead has been counterproductive and helping the BJP as Narendra Modi is seen as a Clean and Non-Corrupt leader that the opposition has not been able to level one single charge of corruption with any proof till date in the last 5 years as PM nor in his sting as the longest serving Chief Minister of Gujarat. Surveys suggest that Chowkidar Chor Hai, is actually angering people.

“This campaign will also drive the narrative of PM’s strong and decisive image which multiple surveys have conveyed is the main factor in the upcoming elections,” said the statement. As part of the campaign, a video has been released with an anthem style song of people proudly claiming to be a chowkidar of the country and people can also take the ‘#MainBhiChowkidar” pledge. While the video urges people to join the PM on March 31 for a programme titled ‘Main bhi Chowkidar” where PM Modi will also interact with people from across the country, for the pledge BJP has leveraged a unique tech innovation called ‘conversation cards’. People will get a personalized message from PM on Twitter when they take the pledge.
