Indian Blind Sports Association (IBSA) is organizing week-long sportsevents for the blind from 6 to 11 January, 2020 in the premises of The BlindRelief Association, Delhi, Lal Bahadur Shastri Marg, near the Oberoi Hotel, NewDelhi.
Over 400 participants, including 85 female blind sports persons from 7states, namely, Delhi, Himachal Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra,Rajasthan, Tamilnadu and Telangana will be taking part in the following events.
1. 5th IBSA KabaddiChampionships For Men (6-11 January)
2. 2nd IBSA KabaddiChampionships For Women (6-11 January)
3. 8th IBSA PowerliftingChampionships (08 January)
4. Coaching Camp and Seminar on Blind Sports (6-11 January)
The sports events will kick-start with inauguration of KabaddiChampionships at 10:00 am on Monday, 6th January 2020. The competitions will be held daily between 10:00 amand 5:30 pm. To ensure highest level of professionalism and fair conduct ofcompetitions, services of professional and experienced referees/judges andtechnical officials are being taken.
Established in 1986, Indian Blind Sports Association (IBSA), is one of theoldest and most active national-level sports organization working for thepromotion of sports among the visually challenged. It is affiliated withParalympic Committee of India and represents India at International BlindSports Federation, the apex blind-sports world body.
The Association is constantly striving to provide access to the visuallychallenged in India to an increased variety of sports like Athletics, 5-a-SideFootball, Powerlifting, Kabaddi, Judo, Lawn Tennis and Goal Ball. It has so farorganized 21 bi-annual National Sports Meets. In the 21st Meet held in December2018 in New Delhi, 750 sportspersons from 18 states participated.
TheAssociation has been regularly sending Indian athletes to top-levelinternational championships held under the aegis of International Blind SportsFederation.
The Association’s athletes have won 5 medals (1 silver & 4 bronze) in theAntalya World Championships (2011), 17 medals (9 gold, 1 silver & 7 bronze)at the World Youth and Students Championships in 2009, 18 medals (5 gold, 5silver & 8 bronze) at the same Championships in 2011 and 2 Bronze medals inthe Seoul 2015 IBSA World Games.
