The ongoing COVID 19 restrictions in Bangladesh have been extended till August 10 to contain the spread of the Coronavirus in the country.
The current phase of COVID 19 related lockdown in the country which started on July 23 was scheduled to come to an end on August 5. The announcement was made in Dhaka by the Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Haque who chaired the inter-ministerial meeting held at the Secretariat on Tuesday, reports the official news agency BSS.
The Minister informed that the shops will reopen on August 11 and public transport will run on a limited scale.
In the wake of rising trend in coronavirus infection, Bangladesh started a lockdown from April 5 which has been extended in phases since then. A strict lockdown was in place in Bangladesh from July 23 after the government provided a relaxation in the lockdown between July 15-22 in view of the Eid-Ul-Azha festival.
The Coronavirus has continued to spread in the country despite the lockdown. As per the latest data provided by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), the death toll in the country has reached 21162 with 246 deaths being reported on Monday. The sample positivity rate also continued to be close to 30 percent.
