Bond of friendship between India and Bangladesh based on shared sacrifice will never break: PM Modi

On the occasion of the National Day celebration of Bangladesh, Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid rich tributes to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and congratulated Bangladesh on its golden jubilee of liberation on Friday.

Speaking at the Parade ground in Dhaka on the concluding day of the 10 day long celebrations, Prime Minister Modi said that the bond of friendship between India and Bangladesh is based on shared sacrifice which can never be broken by any force.

Paying rich tributes to the martyrs of the liberation war of both Bangladesh and India, Prime Minister Modi congratulated Bangladesh for the construction of a memorial at Ashuganj for the Indian soldiers who lost their lives during the 1971 Liberation War of Bangladesh. 

Recalling his own involvement in the 1971 Liberation War of Bangladesh, Prime Minister Modi said that he offered Satyagraha and courted arrest in support of it. He said that the Liberation War of Bangladesh had support of people of India and all political parties. He also recalled the words of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee who had said that by supporting the liberation war of Bangladesh, we are trying to give history a new direction.

Addressing the gathering of eminent people, dignitaries and the diplomatic community  at the Parade ground in Dhaka, Prime Minister Modi said that while both the countries share equal opportunities in the field of trade and commerce, the challenges of terrorism and extremism were also common to both of them. He said this challenge of terrorism needs to be fought in a united manner. 

Speaking about the relations between the two countries, Prime Minister Modi said that both the countries can resolve any issue based on mutual trust and confidence. He said that the Land Border Agreement is a testimony to this.

Prime Minister Modi said that India and Bangladesh maintained great cooperation even during the Corona pandemic. Both countries worked together to establish the SAARC Covid fund and human resources were trained to tackle the crisis. He expressed happiness that the made in India vaccines are proving helpful for the people of Bangladesh.

Highlighting the importance of better connect between the youth of the two countries, Prime Minister Modi invited 50 Bangladeshi entrepreneurs to India to connect to its start up and innovation ecosystem and meet venture capitalists. He also announced Suvarno Jayanti Scholarship for the youth of Bangladesh.
